Why do most designers still use HTML? Simply because they use programs that are based on HTML and/or they have not taken the time to educate themselves with current, more robust options in website development.

HTML, or Hyper Text Markup Language, is an old way of making a website. The coding by itself is very sloppy, heavy and extremely time consuming to use and maintain. Most "do-it-yourself" web design tools use html in the website creation process. Here is why you should avoid it at all costs.

  1. HTML is out-dated
  2. HTML costs more money to maintain
  3. HTML reduces your website ranking with popular search engines.
  4. HTML causes increased development time.
  5. HTML is very limited.

The new improved method of web development fuses PHP, CSS and XHTML, a current version with numerous updates in code structure.

PHP, or PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor and previously known as Personal Home Page, is the choice of today's more proactive developers. Unlike it's competitor, ASP, PHP is an open source script which means anyone can use it at no charge. This is important to you, the client, as more robust websites can be created with lower costs.

There are thousands of great reasons why PHP is the choice of champions. This simple language offers a great variety of applications and is mostly common with database driven websites. With PHP there are not web pages per say, but files that are joined to create web pages. This means your web developer can maintain many web pages in less time thus, saving you valuable programming costs.

A great simple example would be 2 websites with 40 pages each. 1 created with HTML and the other with PHP. You, the client want to change or add a menu item to your navigation. With HTML each of the 40 pages must be revisited to make the change. Very time consuming. With the PHP website, we visit one small file and make the change in as little as 1 minute.

Would you rather pay for several hours of website maintenance or a few minutes?
